Hello, I’m Laura, Interior Designer here at HOME Harborough, and if you’re anything like me, Easter isn’t just about chocolate (although that’s always a bonus). It’s about slowing down, relaxing with friends or family, and creating a setting that feels as peaceful and fresh as the season itself.
Whether you’re hosting a full Easter lunch or just want to make the weekend feel a little more special, styling your table can instantly set the mood. No stress, just simple steps and thoughtful touches.
So here’s my guide to styling a beautiful, seasonal table that’s both practical and pretty.
1. Start with a Soft Base
Think of your table like a blank canvas. A runner is a lovely way to add interest without covering the whole surface, and our new wipe-clean outdoor runners are ideal if little ones (or red wine) are involved. I love using the Lemon or Peach prints for a playful, springy feel, they’re vibrant but still super tasteful.
Design tip: Keep your base neutral if your accessories are bold, or go for pastels all over for a soft and layered look.
2. Layer with Purpose
Now for the fun bit! Layering adds texture, so let’s build from the runner upward:
Placemats add structure - I love our woven jute ones for a natural finish.
Folded napkins tucked beneath the plates feel intentional and warm.
Add name tags or a tiny chocolate treat on each setting for a thoughtful touch.
If you’re outdoors (fingers crossed for sunshine!), try mixing patterned plates with plain ones for that relaxed, al fresco vibe.
3. Embrace Colour, But Keep It Balanced
Spring is the season for colour! Blush pinks, sage greens, soft yellows. But the key is balance. If your tableware is patterned, keep flowers and accessories simple, or vice versa.
A bunch of tulips, daffodils or even cut greenery in a jug vase brings life to your table. If you’ve got little helpers, get them involved in picking or arranging, they’ll love seeing their work in pride of place.
4. Candles Always Win
I never host without candles, even in the daytime. They add a softness that feels instantly special. Our Ivy & Twine candles or a small set of votives down the centre of the table do the job perfectly, and the scents are just dreamy!
Match them with a coordinating reed diffuser nearby (the Wood Sage & Sea Salt is my go-to this time of year), and your whole space will feel fresh and welcoming.
5. Don’t Overthink It
Honestly, the most beautiful tables are often the ones that aren’t “perfect.” A crinkled linen runner, a wonky stack of bowls, hand-drawn name cards; it’s these little touches that show authentic love and care.
Mix old with new. Add a jug of something chilled. Leave a blanket on each chair if you’re outdoors. Comfort is key.
How to Choose the Right Tableware Style for Your Home
As an interior designer, I always say the dining table is more than just a place to eat, it’s a visual extension of your home’s personality. Choosing the right tableware style isn’t just about what looks pretty on the table, but how it complements the tone, colour palette, and textures used throughout your home.
For Contemporary or Minimal Homes…
If your home features clean lines, natural wood floors, and a neutral palette, lean into modern tableware with smooth finishes, matte glazes, and simple shapes. Think soft greys, warm creams, or inky black tones, elegant and fuss-free. These pieces work beautifully with handleless kitchens, concrete countertops, and Scandinavian-inspired dining furniture. A simple sprig of greenery or a linen napkin adds just enough contrast.
For Country or Rustic Interiors…
Homes with exposed beams, shaker-style cabinetry or an Aga in the kitchen suit rustic tableware with character. Look for artisan-style ceramics, speckled glazes, earthy tones, and softly curved edges. These pieces feel warm and homely and tie in well with other tactile details like woven placemats, vintage flatware or relaxed linen runners. Bonus points if your tableware has a handmade feel - it adds to the authenticity.
For Eclectic or Maximalist Spaces…
If your home is full of layered colours, artwork, or bold furniture pieces, don’t be afraid to go vibrant. Choose patterned tableware in fun colourways, like our lemon print placemats or floral coasters, and mix them with coloured glassware or bold napkins. This style works well in homes with gallery walls, painted furniture or tiled splashbacks. Your table becomes a statement piece in itself.
For Classic or Transitional Homes…
If you love timeless pieces with subtle elegance, choose neutral-toned crockery with a traditional shape or a soft scalloped edge. This style complements panelled walls, traditional joinery, and warm metallic accents (like antique brass or brushed gold). Pair with velvet or floral cushions in the dining space and a soft ambient glow from wall lighting for a refined but inviting setup.
For Outdoor or Garden Rooms…
Spring and summer dining often move outside, so your tableware should follow suit. Look for durable wipe-clean materials - we’ve got you! Our coated cotton runners in playful colours or fruity prints are just fabulous. These are perfect for garden tables, conservatories, or sunrooms and pair well with rattan chairs, colourful plant pots and woven rugs underfoot.
No matter your interior style, try to keep a sense of flow from room to room. If your living space uses warm tones or natural textures, reflect that in your tableware. If your kitchen is cool and sleek, opt for clean, tonal pieces. Your table doesn’t need to match everything exactly but it should speak the same design language.
And if you’re somewhere in between (which many of us are!), try mixing styles. Combine classic white crockery with seasonal placemats, or pair contemporary dinnerware with warm-toned textured glassware to keep your tablescape feeling fresh and personal.
Anywho, no matter your style, the key is consistency. Choosing colours, shapes and textures that echo the rest of your space, so your dining table feels like a natural extension of your home.
Final Thoughts from Me
Easter styling doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. A few key pieces, a colourful runner, layered textiles, soft lighting, and natural details, are all you need to set the scene.
And remember, it’s not about impressing, it’s about welcoming. Setting a beautiful table is just another way to say “You’re important to me.”
I hope you have a relaxing, joy-filled Easter weekend - and if you need a hand choosing the right pieces, pop in and see us or browse online.
